Spend your retirement in good company

Spend your retirement in good company

RETIREES spend more on having fun than on essentials and those making a move in Worcester could free up additional funds to enjoy the finer things in life thanks to Aspen Retirement.

Research suggests that those of retirement age splash out 53% of their cash on leisure activities, holidays and dining out; while necessities such as housing, bills, food and clothing account for just 47% of their spending.

The good news for those who want to make the most of their retirement is that Aspen is offering to cover the cost of many things householders would otherwise have to pay for themselves for a year, potentially freeing up their finances to indulge in non-essentials.

Customers who reserve an apartment at Eastbank Court before October 29 could have the service charge waived for 12 months – saving them more £6,000.

The incentive covers buildings insurance, cleaning, gardening, ground rent, a reserve fund for the long-term maintenance of the development, and the rental for a car park space.

Aspen’s Glenys Bastin explained: “Moving to Eastbank Court is very much a lifestyle choice and those who choose to purchase an apartment here could see a shift in their spending habits. For example, because the apartments are fitted with energy efficient heating systems, they’re likely to see a reduction in their fuel bills. Plus with the on-site licensed restaurant offering subsidised prices for residents, ‘dining out’ is also likely to be more affordable.”

Eastbank Court boasts a raft of hotel-style facilities including a salon, activities room and beautiful landscaped gardens.

The cost of maintaining the gardens, along with the building itself, is covered by the service charge. The fee also covers staffing – there’s a manager on hand at all times; plus cleaning the communal areas, window cleaning, security and 90 minutes’ regular domestic help for our homeowners. It also subsidises the cost of meals in the on-site licenced restaurant.

Current availability at Eastbank Court includes one and two-bedroom apartments, priced from £184,950, or from only £147,960 with Aspen Assist.

The Aspen Assist shared equity scheme gives people aged 70 and over the option to pay just 80% of the purchase price, with Aspen retaining the remaining 20% until the property is resold at  a later date.

“Many of our homeowners say that downsizing their home has given them a new lease of life as they’ve been able to strike up friendships with their new neighbours and indulge in their hobbies,” Glenys added.

“There’s always something going on from musical sessions, to quizzes and fitness classes held within the development, plus a raft of activities and trips organised by the social committee.”

Located on Eastbank Drive, Northwick, the Aspen Retirement development is ideally placed in a quiet residential area. There’s a post office, shop and chemist just 250 yards away, as well as the bus stop for journeys into the city centre. There are even motorised scooters available for homeowners to hire.
