Retirement life in the 'fast lane' at Eastbank Court

Retirement life in the 'fast lane' at Eastbank Court

LIFE can sometimes slow down a little in retirement but for Raymond and Tonie Boyland, their diary is busier than ever.

The couple recently moved into a luxury apartment in Eastbank Court, Worcester, and life is now one social whirl.

Mr Boyland said: “We are really enjoying life since moving to Eastbank Court – it’s fantastic.

“My wife and I go to the main lounge for afternoon tea and coffee mornings, in the evenings we have played bingo and been to film evenings, and met up with people for a chat. I think it’s grand.”

The former telecommunications worker laughed: “We were getting too old for a lot of activities we had enjoyed previously. We used to do American square dancing where they call out a step and we had collected around 1,000 over the years – but with failing memories we could only remember 300! We had to hang up our dancing shoes but now we are busier than ever.”

Mr and Mrs Boyland, both 89, moved from Harrow to the Aspen Retirement development to be closer to their family. Their grandson lives in nearby Evesham with his wife and children; while their daughter and son-in-law will soon be moving to the area.

“Tonie and I are getting on a bit and we felt a little more support would be nice,” Mr Boyland explained.

“We looked at several options before we decided on Eastbank Court but we felt this was the best one for us.

“We liked the apartment, the reassurance of having staff on duty 24 hours a day and the fact that there’s a restaurant too – we have been a few times and the food is very good.”

The couple had lived in their old house, a three-bedroom semi, for 55 years, so it was hard to up sticks and make the change.

But Mr Boyland said: “Moving to Eastbank Court made things a lot easier. The staff are absolutely marvellous, they can’t do enough for you. They are always so pleasant and happy; they really are first class.

“Another good thing about being here is that there is no maintenance for me.  If there is a leak in the roof or the fence blows down, I can just call someone else and don’t have to worry about it.”

Liz Herring, sales and marketing manager for Aspen, said: “It is wonderful to see that Mr and Mrs Boyland have settled in so well at Eastbank Court and are so happy there.

“That’s the beauty of life in an Aspen Retirement apartment. Homeowners still have their independence and can just relax and enjoy life without having to worry about a thing. They can join in with various social activities, indulge in a spot of lunch and a glass of wine in the restaurant and don’t have to worry about housework as regular domestic help is included in the service charge.

“There’s a manager on duty round the clock for peace of mind, with the option to add extra care if it is needed.”

One-bedroom apartments are available at Eastbank Court from £184,950, or for as little as £147,960 with Aspen Assist.

The apartments are spacious and kitchens include a washer/dryer, while sumptuous bathrooms have a walk in shower.

Located on Eastbank Drive, Northwick, the Aspen Retirement development is ideally placed in a quiet residential area.  There is a post office, shop and chemist just 250 yards away as well as the bus stop to take you into the city centre.
