Luxurious solution to loneliness

Luxurious solution to loneliness

A MOVE to one of the last three remaining retirement apartments at a luxury development in Worcester could be good for your health.

Various research has highlighted the health implications of loneliness, the most recent being a study presented at EuroHeartCare 2018. While the research found loneliness rather than living alone had a more significant impact, it also raised the importance of a good social network.

A move to Eastbank Court or its neighbour Eastbank Lodge, could provide the perfect solution. The luxury retirement development enables homeowners to continue to live independently in a privately owned apartment, while being part of a community within an existing residential neighbourhood.

But potential purchasers will need to act fast, as there are now only three brand new apartments available.

Aspen’s Glenys Bastin says: “People have a perception of what they think a retirement development is like and perhaps rule it out before they’ve given it a chance, opting to stay in a home that’s now too big for them. The reality is that with Eastbank Court and Eastbank Lodge we have broken the mould and created what’s more akin to a five-star hotel than a traditional retirement community.

“Moving here is a great way to combat loneliness, which can be an issue that impacts on older people’s physical and mental health.  Our communal facilities offer plenty of opportunities to get to know your new neighbours either informally or by participating in one of the many regular social activities.”

Glenys adds: “A lot of retirees are fiercely protective of their independence but moving to somewhere like Eastbank Court and Eastbank Lodge doesn’t mean they lose that freedom. In fact it can have the opposite effect, enabling them to live independently for longer but with the option of support from friendly staff. For some people it’s a way of future proofing themselves as it could reduce the need for them to move again at a later stage.”

Priced from £199,950, the last remaining apartments include what is currently the sales office on the ground floor of the main building, is a lovely one-bedroom home. There are also two  generously proportioned two-bedroom apartments with good-sized kitchens in Eastbank Lodge.

Both options allow access to hotel-style facilities including a hair salon, library, activities room, licensed restaurant and beautiful landscaped gardens.

Aspen’s properties can be purchased and enjoyed by those aged 60-plus. Purchasers aged 70 and over could pay just 80% of the price of a brand new apartment using the Aspen Equity Share scheme. With this, Aspen Retirement Ltd will retain a 20% Equity Share interest in the property until it is resold at a later date – reducing the amount the customer has to pay initially

To help get people moving, Aspen can also offer the option of £1,000 towards the cost of removals and allow customers to ‘live free for a year’ by covering 12 months’ worth of fees. The latter could save homeowners more than £6,000 in total. The valuable incentive covers the service charge, ground rent, the cost of renting a car park space if required, as well as a contribution to the reserve fund for the long-term maintenance of the development.

A small number of resale apartments are also available within the development.

Located on Eastbank Drive, in the Northwick area of Worcester, Eastbank Court and Lodge are ideally placed in a quiet residential area. There’s a post office, shop and chemist just 250 yards away, as well as the bus stop for journeys into the city centre. There are motorised scooters available for homeowners to hire, showing every little detail has been considered.
