Downsizers Delight

Downsizers Delight THE opportunity to live independently but with the reassurance of support when it’s needed means that downsizers can enjoy the best of both worlds at Grange Court in Solihull, as Edith Harwood discovered.

Edith explained: “I had been living in a chalet bungalow in Brighton but have family living in Solihull and decided it was time to move to be nearer to them and to somewhere with a bit of extra support. I visited a number of retirement complexes and decided Aspen Retirement Living’s Grange Court development was the ideal choice for me.

“I still live independently and have my own living area and kitchen in my apartment but have the benefit of an emergency call system in case I need to get help quickly.”

While she initially considered a two-bedroom apartment, Edith purchased a one-bedroom apartment and is happy with her new home. The development has a guest suite for when relatives come to stay and, when she craves company, Edith can join other home owners in the residents’ lounge.

Having lived in her previous home for 57 years Edith appreciates that people who are downsizing to an apartment at Grange Court must decide if it’s the right move for them.

“I’m perfectly happy here and wouldn’t change it for the world, but people who are moving have to be ready for it and come and see it for themselves,” Edith commented.

“When I first came to look around I liked the layout of the development and the people I met – both the home owners and staff – were friendly and welcoming. It’s very congenial and we have coffee mornings together.”

The apartments at Grange Court boast well-equipped kitchens, which include an electric eye-level oven, hob, fridge-freezer and washer dryer, while bathrooms include a separate shower cubicle as well as a bath.

Aspen incorporates plenty of built-in storage space within its apartments but for those moving from larger properties and worried about fitting in all the essentials there are even extra storage lock-ups available for rent.

“There are no worries about maintenance such as replacing fences or gardening so it’s a much easier, more relaxed way of living. I would definitely recommend it,” Edith added.

Substantial savings are currently available for those who can complete their move before the end of March. Prices start from just £179,950 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £249,950 for a two-bedroom property.
