Community Spirit Helps People Feel at Home at Tannery Court

Community Spirit Helps People Feel at Home at Tannery Court

NEW neighbours are striking up new friendships and enjoying a host of social activities whilst enjoying life in their brand new homes at Tannery Court in Abergele.

Tannery Court is perfect for both the active retired and those who perhaps need some extra care. They can retain their independence, living in their own home, while also benefitting from the reassurance of friendly on-site support staff and a range of communal facilities.

It’s a lifestyle that’s proving popular with those who’ve already moved in to one of the Aspen Retirement Living apartments and, with only two properties remaining, the opportunity to join them is limited.

Cyril Cross, 71, moved to Tannery Court two years ago as a way of preparing for a future when he may need some extra care.

“It’s lonely living in a bungalow in a cul-de-sac – you never see anyone and you have to go out to meet people, but here you can go for a coffee and have a chat with people any time you like. There are always things going on and we all get on and have a laugh, but you don’t have to mix all the time, you can enjoy your privacy too. And if you don’t want to cook you can eat in the restaurant,” he said.

“At the moment I can live independently, look after myself and do my own cooking and cleaning, but I’m reassured to know that all the facilities are here that I may need in the future.”

Neighbour Keith Roberts, 73, has lived at Tannery Court for four years.

“I’ve gone from living in a three-bedroom house and feeling isolated to being part of a self-contained community within the town. There’s lots of communication between us all and there’s always something going on – day and night – so there’s plenty of things to get involved in whatever your interests,” Keith said.

“It’s the way forward for older people as you can retain your independence but know there’s help available if you need it. There’s a housekeeper to assist with washing and ironing and care packages are available so those who need it can be helped on to their feet in the morning and to bed in the evening.”

Tannery Court is in the heart of Abergele, close to shops and other amenities, and three-quarters of a mile from Abergele and Pensarn train station.

The final two apartments are priced from £167,500.

Purchasers may be able to trade in their current home towards the cost of an apartment through part exchange.

Other ways Aspen can help with purchase include a 70/30 shared equity scheme which reduces the amount that purchasers pay for their property. One of the last remaining apartments would cost just £117,250, with Aspen retaining a 30% equity share.
